About
The author
I’m Joe, a twenty year old student studying Philosophy and German at the University of Greenwich. I’ve been studying German for the last seven years, from the ‘induction’ years of Years 8 – 9, through GCSEs, A-Levels and now to degree level. I’ve developed something of a passion for the German language.
The blog
As for the blog, this will cover my year abroad in Weimar in Thüringen, a state or Land in the middle of Germany, between September 2010 – May 2011. I’ll be working as an English Language Assistant, in a scheme set up by the British Council and will be blogging about the various events that will be experienced, along with various thoughts that living abroad for an extended time will no doubt give me.
Ultimately, I’ve created the blog for a couple of reasons:
- As a personal record of my year abroad for myself – I’ve always had the writing bug and have always wanted to keep a blog, but had nothing to fill it, now, I do. This is also a record for my family, friends and other curious Googlers who stumble across this blog in a state of intrigue. Hello to you all.
- Hopefully, for it to be used as a resource for any future language assistants who either go specifically to Thüringen, or to Germany in general.
